Everything at an early age seems to be correct when you do, but later on, a time when you get experience and you look back, you can spot the mistake you made.

Mistake’s that causes me to lose $1000+

Freelancing was something I was excited for always, I started my journey as a freelancer back in 2020 with Upwork, I researched a bit and send some proposals, luckily one of them got accepted, and got my work. That one job turned out to be a long-term job and the client asked me to work off the upwork, and this is where I made the mistake. I accepted the proposal seeing I can save a lot of money that Upwork is charging but this step has impacted me in the long term because I was not able to build my Upwork profile.

How my decision impacted future contract’s

Not having a strong profile in Upwork has not allowed my future client where I send the proposal to pay the rates I was looking for and for which I was capable of seeing the work I was delivering to my ex-clients, this has made to lower my rates at Upwork and had to accept jobs at lower rates to build my profile.

Advice for new beginners freelancer

Even you are getting charged some percentage by Upwork i.e 20 % for the first $500 and 10% after that, stick to that platform and build your profile as you can multiple your rates by 2X or 3X in a small time frame. If you got your work visible in your Upwork account then no one can stop in getting better opportunities each day. Find clients that have good feedback from the freelancer as it will help you not get trapped with the bad clients that might impact your profile rating and score.

Happy hunting 😊
